What is Test Prep Palooza?
Test Prep Palooza is an on-demand virtual conference hosted by Laura Kebart, M.Ed. featuring interviews, trainings, and no-prep / low-prep lesson plan components with experienced teachers who believe that even though test prep is a necessary evil, it doesn't have to feel that way.
This year's BIG FOCUS is on active engagement that doesn't feel like official "test prep" but that DOES get the job done!
Everyone's schedule is so busy, which is why we've designed this on-demand at-your-own-pace event to where you can pick and choose which sessions you wish to view.
The topics, ideas, shared lessons, and action steps you'll learn at Test Prep Palooza are all designed to help you get organized and engage your middle school ELA students in a realistic way that allows test prep to be effective, engaging, and confidence-boosting for both you and your students.
⭐️By the end, you'll know EXACTLY what YOUR test prep plan will be⭐️
Frequently Asked Questions
Who is Test Prep Palooza for? This weekend virtual event is designed for an audience of both new AND experienced Middle School Reading and / or Writing Teachers who desire actionable, realistic strategies and ideas to implement not just for official test prep (which is the goal), but all year long, too!
As Middle School ELA teachers, we have our own special test prep-related needs that other content areas or grade levels just don't deal with. No one person has all the answers, but pulling together an incredible team of teachers from all over the country with a diverse amount of experiences, knowledge, and backgrounds, will provide the BEST professional opportunity to learn and implement new strategies that grow your students while helping you review with joy this year.
If you are ready to organize and actually enjoy the test prep review process, (or if you've been at this a while and need to restart with a fresh perspective from teacher experts who GET IT), then Test Prep Palooza is perfect for you!
Does it include a Professional Development (PD) certificate? You get 6 hours of PD certificates to serve as a record of your time. This is a fantastic way to not only learn what you personally want to learn as you start prepping for the test in your area, but also to serve as documentation that you can add to your continuing education files!
Will the sessions be for teachers in my state? What standards and what test? The reading and writing test prep strategies are to show you HOW to review and practice for whatever the test looks like in your state. What you learn at Test Prep Palooza will apply to your own unique type of test because we're designing the sessions with engaged review and practice strategies that don't feel like your typical test reviews. If your upcoming standardized test includes reading concepts like theme, main idea/details, author's purpose, inferences, text evidence, and more across genres like fiction, nonfiction, poetry, paired passages, etc. then you're in exactly the right place. If your upcoming standardized test includes any written responses like constructed responses, timed writings, unpacking the prompts, embedding text evidence and proof, etc. then you're ALSO in exactly the right place!
What can I get out of this event besides 'just' test prep resources? Hey, I'm right there with you. I DON'T want to just "teach to the test," either. That's why what we show you will be highly applicable to all kinds of lessons you'll use throughout the year. We're focusing on interactive engagement with the most-often tested reading and writing skills and concepts across all major genres. What that means for you is that yes, you'll definitely want to implement these strategies and resources NOW as you lead your students through various reviews and practice for the test in your neck of the woods. . . But more than that, it means you'll have specific, exciting, ready-made lessons and strategies to use again and again throughout the school year as well.
I serve super-busy Middle School ELA Teachers who choose personal family time over prepping for class.
